Jennifer Farmer, LPC, helps those struggling with life’s many challenges in relationships, life transitions, career decisions, addiction, personal growth, trauma and grief. She provides knowledge, supportive counseling and the level of accountability that you want to attain your goals for a happier life and better relationships. The purpose of the counseling relationship is to help people grow, heal, and achieve their life goals. At the outset of the therapy relationship, goals will be developed. Together plans are developed collaboratively to help to you reach those goals.
What is Jennifer’s treatment philosophy?
Jennifer uses eclectic techniques from several schools of thought. She believes knowledge is power and education can be an important part of therapy. A cognitive behavioral approach works well with many clients. This blends understanding and learning the reasons behind certain behaviors. Jennifer will teach you how to implement techniques to resolve or decrease the problem behaviors. She helps clients gain insight into their problems so that they will no longer feel stuck or unhappy. This helps them formulate their new plan to move forward and make life changes. Jennifer works with children, adolescents, and young adults (under 25 years old) in a developmental context to prepare the clients for the current and next stage of development.
Jennifer adheres to the code of ethics set by the American Mental Health Counselors Association. “Mental health counselors believe in the dignity and worth of the individual. They are committed to increasing knowledge of human behavior and understanding of themselves and others. While pursuing these endeavors, they make reasonable effort to protect the welfare of those who seek their services or of those that may be the subject of any study. They use their skills only for the purpose consistent with these values and do not knowingly permits the misuse of others. While demanding for themselves freedom of inquiry and community, mental health counselors accepts the responsibility this freedom confers: competence, objectivity in the application of skills, and the concern for the best interest of clients, colleagues, and society in general.”
